U.S. men’s national team interim head coach Anthony Hudson said he will remain in that role as long as the Commonwealth restructures.

Anthony Hudson comments on head coach's future amid USMNT shakeupHudson takes charge of his second game on Saturday.

The Englishman took charge of his first game as an experimental group full of MLS talent and young Europeans in a 2-1 loss to Serbia at LAFC‘s BMO Stadium on Wednesday night.

This is followed by another friendly against Colombia at the LA Galaxy‘s Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday, initially thought to be Hudson’s final game in charge.

Since taking the job, however, sporting director Ernie Stewart has left for PSV, while legendary USMNT striker Brian McBride’s contract as general manager was not renewed. With no one currently available to pick a successor, Hudson is happy to remain at the helm for the time being.

“Obviously something has changed,” Hudson told reporters, adding: “My focus is just continuing to prepare the team for what I’ve been asked to do.

“I didn’t really think about all of this, how this has evolved. But I’m fully focused and when we get back, I’m going to focus on the next window. If I’m still asked to do that after that, I’m going to Prepare for that. I will continue to do my best. This is a very, very special team. I know how important this national team is and I want to do everything I can to make sure that wherever, whenever, whoever comes in, it They’re all in a good position.”

So, with his future secured, Hudson’s attention returns to Saturday’s game against Colombia. The priority, as is often the case in these January friendlies, is to give new players a chance to thrive, who don’t usually get one in the international window.

“Everybody’s been in those two games, and that’s the goal,” Hudson said. “We want to see new players; can we add depth to the team? By doing that, we need to make sure that we get the players fit in the right way for those two games. Of course, we want to win every game, But in these games, every player is physically ahead of us.”
